There are games you play for the mechanics, games you play for the challenge, and then there are games you play because the story grips you so completely that you genuinely cannot put the controller down until you know what happens next. The kind of games where you find yourself thinking about the characters and their choices long after the credits roll. That is what this list is about. I wanted to put together a collection of ten story-driven games that I think every gamer should experience at least once. These are not necessarily the ten highest-rated games of all time, and this is not a definitive ranking of which narrative is objectively better than another, because storytelling is deeply personal. Instead, I looked at how well each game tells its story, how effectively it uses the medium of gaming to deliver that narrative, and how memorable the experience is overall. Some of these are massive open-world epics, some are more focused and linear, and a couple might surprise you.
