The East India Company's European regiments were perennially understaffed, but they had a secret weapon: Sepoys. These native Indian recruits were armed, dressed, and trained exactly like British Redcoats. By offering decent pay, land grants, pensions, and social prestige, "John Company" had no trouble recruiting across different religions and castes. It remains one of history’s greatest ironies: India was effectively conquered by an army of its own people. #EastIndiaCompany #BritishEmpire #HistoryShorts #IndianHistory #Sepoys #CorporateHistory #MilitaryHistory
