The future of the UK’s largest telescope has been put at risk after the UKRI announced it was withdrawing its funding. The Lovell telescope, which has stood at Jodrell Bank in Cheshire since 1957, is the world’s third largest steerable radio telescope. The instrument has a diameter of 76.2 metres and is part of the e-Merlin array, a network of telescopes up and down the country which is operated by the University of Manchester from the site. Speaking with Shadow Science, Innovation and Technology Secretary Julia Lopez MP, Talk's Alex Phillips says: "If that is the same as Jodrell Bank, I think I know which one I'd rather be funding, rather than the vanity project so the Mayor of Manchester can continue to live at home." #andyburnham #jodrellbank #alexphillips #talk Have you got a story?
