England will boycott the World Cup alongside all European nations in response to Gianni Infantino’s £15bn tournament sale. Uefa members voted 55-0 in favour of turning their backs on the global governing body in a show of outrage against the Fifa president and his proposal to sell 30 per cent of World Cup commercial rights to private investors. It is the first time that an entire confederation has voted to boycott major Fifa tournaments, with the Football Association and contemporaries across Europe deciding they have no option but to take such a dramatic and united stand.
