Grand Theft Auto legacy review by Luke Reilly. Reviewed on PC and PlayStation. "Like a Stone Age axe, Grand Theft Auto is hard, primitive, and – honestly – more than a little cumbersome. However, like said axe, it’s nonetheless a valuable artefact that maintains an effective edge to it. Fearless but flawed and endearing but unnecessarily difficult, the original Grand Theft Auto may be tricky to wholeheartedly recommend to anyone who didn’t previously play it during its moment back in the late ’90s, but I can’t deny how fascinating it’s been to re-experience its prehistoric brand of open-world freedom in the context of everything that’s come since. It just demands patience, precision, and a paper map by your side."
