Andy Burnham’s replacement as Greater Manchester mayor will be announced on Friday following the largest by-election in British history. Votes from Thursday’s by-election will be counted throughout the day, with the result expected to be declared in the afternoon. More than two million people were eligible to vote in the contest, triggered by Mr Burnham’s election to Parliament last month.
