China's GDP grew 4.7% year on year in the first half of 2026, according to the Political Bureau meeting of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee on Thursday. The meeting noted that, since the beginning of this year, China's economy has benefited from new growth drivers and an improving economic structure. The meeting called for efforts to strengthen six major infrastructure networks, bolster basic research, advance the AI Plus Initiative with new forms of the smart economy, and improve artificial intelligence governance.
