Why are there more food recalls than usual? Consumers aren't imagining it. Food recalls have increased in recent years, affecting everything from fresh produce and eggs to packaged foods, meat and ready-to-eat products. According to Statista, FDA and USDA recalls have climbed over the past several years, reflecting a combination of foodborne illness outbreaks, undeclared allergens, foreign material contamination and expanded oversight across the food supply.
