Pressure ramps up on Infantino as top adviser resigns over World Cup investment plan

One senior Fifa official has resigned, and another has openly criticised the body's president Gianni Infantino over his plan to offer a stake in the World Cup to private companies. Carlos Cordeiro, who represented the football body on the White House Task Force for the World Cup, resigned in protest at the private equity plan. “I cannot stand by while Fifa considers selling a stake in the World Cup,” Cordeiro, a former Goldman Sachs banker, said in a statement resigning as advisor to Infantino. Cordeiro urged other members of Fifa to speak out against the plan. Fifa’s chief operating officer Kevin Lamour has spoken out against Infantino, saying in a statement staff were "deceived" by the Fifa's chief's lack of openness in planning the private investor scheme and “deserve better than contempt and intimidation”.
