UDA, ODM differ over Ruto's running mate

With coalition negotiations ahead of the 2027 General Election gathering momentum, the battle over who should deputize President William Ruto under the broad-based political arrangement is intensifying. The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) and the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) are divided over where the coalition's Deputy President candidate should come from. While UDA insists Deputy President Prof. Kithure Kindiki remains the natural choice, ODM leaders are backing Cooperatives Cabinet Secretary Wycliffe Oparanya. The contest is also taking on a regional dimension, with leaders from different parts of the country fronting candidates they believe are best placed to help President William Ruto secure a second term.
