CPS continues to seek public assistance in extortion investigations

As part of an effort to further our investigations into the ongoing extortion series targeting the South Asian community, we are releasing photos of select accused to elicit more tips from the public. Since this series began in April 2025, there have been 49 extortion-related incidents in Calgary. Nineteen shootings are tied to this series, targeting both extortion victims and suspects. To date, 16 individuals have been charged with 56 offences in relation to the Calgary series. Earlier this year, our Organized Crime & Offender Management Section launched two dedicated operations to address this concerning trend, Operation Orion and Operation Outage, which are ongoing and strategically focus on both investigative and suppression efforts targeting extortion-related violence. These proactive efforts prevent violence and maintain public safety. Since then, we have seen significant success in making arrests, laying charges and reducing the frequency of extortion attempts in Calgary.
