Andy Burnham claims Labour’s plan to reduce small-boat crossings is working, despite almost 900 migrants reaching Britain during his first week as Prime Minister. Around 13,000 people had crossed the Channel in 2026 when the report was published—45 per cent fewer than at the same point in 2025. Burnham said the fall showed progress was being made but admitted more needed to be done. Critics argue the lower numbers are mainly due to bad weather rather than government action. They also accused French officers of allowing migrants to launch boats despite Britain committing more than £1 billion towards French border enforcement. Mark Dolan and former Met police detective Peter Bleksley discuss. #news #immigration #english Have you got a story?
