Known for mystery meat and powdered potatoes, a new initiative is replacing ultra-processed foods at military mess halls with fresher, locally sourced ingredients. The Army is launching the third pilot of a nutrition-focused dining program that leaders say is designed to improve service member health and readiness. Our team got exclusive access to the latest dining hall to see if the new food is improving soldiers’ performance and gauge their reaction to the revamped menu. NBC News’ Anne Thompson reports.
