Non-Muslim officers and staff at West Midlands Police were voluntarily invited to fast from dawn until sunset for one day during Ramadan and help raise money for charity. The force said the initiative allowed employees to understand the importance of Ramadan to Muslim colleagues and residents. Critics, including shadow justice secretary Nick Timothy, called it inappropriate and questioned whether frontline officers could perform demanding duties safely without food or water. The associated community event was held in March 2026. More than 230 people attended, and over £5,600 was raised for Islamic Help and Children with Cancer UK. Two Police Federation representatives participated in the fasting experience. Mark Dolan speaks with retired DCI, Mike Neville. #news #islam #police #ramadan #uk #politics Have you got a story?
