Should the World's Black Pudding Throwing Competition go vegan? 🤔 PETA's Director of Media and Communications, Jennifer White, has called for the change, saying that no one should have blood on their hands. The animal rights organisation has also volunteered to cover the cost of replacing both the blood sausages and Yorkshire puddings used in the competition with cruelty-free substitutes. In their letter, the campaigners argued: "It's all fun and games until someone gets hurt. In the case of the World Black Pudding Throwing Championships, someone does indeed get hurt: pigs." The annual event, held in the Bury village Ramsbottom, sees competitors hurl black puddings at Yorkshire puddings perched on a ledge. Its origins are thought to trace back over 500 years to the Wars of the Roses, when rival soldiers allegedly lobbed food at one another after exhausting their ammunition.
