UKARUMPA, Papua New Guinea — This is one of the most isolated places on Earth. Towering mountain ranges, dense jungles, and deep river valleys have kept entire communities separated from the outside world for thousands of years. In many parts of the country, there are no roads. No highways. No easy way in or out. "There were people that lived here for thousands of years and had never any contact with the outside world because of how rugged this place is," said Greg Raychard, a missionary pilot with JAARS. Papua New Guinea is also unlike anywhere else on Earth for another reason. It is home to more than 840 languages, the highest concentration of languages anywhere in the world.
