Thousands of Iranian pilgrims gathered at Iraq’s Imam Hussein shrine ahead of Arbaeen, one of the world’s largest annual religious gatherings. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi also prayed at the Imam Ali Shrine in Najaf before traveling to Karbala for the annual pilgrimage. Volunteers served free meals as worshippers took part in rituals marking 40 days of mourning for Imam Hussein.
