An injured kitten named Gelato gained the ability to walk thanks to a wheelchair that staff at a Cincinnati animal shelter built with toy cars and rulers. Gelato, now about 3 months old, stands in his wheelchair daily for his physical therapy routine, which involves veterinary assistant Mallory Smith moving his legs and hips to try to build strength and mobility. His health has improved; he can now stand without the wheelchair’s assistance. “He’s been through a lot in his, so far, very short life,” said Smith, who is fostering Gelato. “And he’s very inspiring to kind of keep moving forward.”
