Fast-moving wildfires near Spokane have destroyed hundreds of homes and forced tens of thousands to evacuate, in what officials call one of Washington State's most destructive natural disasters. More than 900 firefighters are battling the blazes, which have been fuelled by dry conditions and strong winds. Governor Bob Ferguson has requested federal assistance as authorities warn the true scale of destruction remains unclear. The fires are part of a broader wildfire season across the western US, linked to hot, dry conditions driven by climate change. Al Jazeera’s Manuel Rapalo reports from Washington, DC.
