Prime Minister Andy Burnham has said rape, serious child sex offences, and grooming are to be excluded from upcoming cuts to prison sentences. It comes after Burnham paused plans to release prisoners early in September to ease overcrowding in jails. Gemma Chappell, the aunt of murdered toddler Maya Chappell, said she's devastated by Burnham's decision. Meanwhile, the widow of PC Andrew Harper, who was killed in the line of duty in 2019, said she was "disgusted" that her husband's killers had not been excluded from early release. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Broadcast on: 04/08/2026 Stream Good Morning Britain live, every weekday from 6am on the ITVX π² http://daytimelink.itv.com/WatchGMBYT Subscribe now for more! http://bit.ly/1NbomQa Like, follow and subscribe to Good Morning Britain!
