In the United States, someone suffers a stroke every 40 seconds—a reality Trevor Shoemaker experienced firsthand after surviving both a hemorrhagic and an ischemic stroke. Waking up to hemiparesis, memory loss, and a life restricted to a wheelchair, Trevor faced a crucial choice: succumb to anger or embrace a mindset of recovery and faith. Detailing his grueling daily journey through physical, occupational, and speech therapy, Shoemaker demonstrates how choosing kindness, maintaining a positive attitude, and relying on community can open doors that anger would keep locked. Trevor Shoemaker is an app developer, sports handicapper, and stroke survivor. After surviving a life-threatening stroke, Trevor uses his platform to share honest insights into neurological rehabilitation, memory recovery, and the transformative power of mindset and community support. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at ht
