As prime minister, Kevin Rudd sat down at The Lodge with Chinese leader Xi Jinping for a long conversation in Mandarin. Since then he has studied all of Xi's speeches and writing. It's given him a highly unusual insight into Xi's view of the world. Recently Rudd finished his term as Australian ambassador to the United States.
