Women under the age of 50 at risk of developing breast cancer later in life are not being referred for early tests or specialist treatment, say researchers who say the current GP guidelines are missing 95% of patients. Their report says NHS criteria used for screening the group are too narrow. They said identifying those at higher risk would give doctors more chance of treating or even preventing the disease.
