Turkey is demanding urgent measures from Russia and Ukraine after drones struck the Turkish-owned cargo vessel Nadezhda near Russia’s Novorossiysk port. The attack damaged the ship’s living quarters and bow, igniting a fire that continued after all 22 crew members abandoned the vessel. Three sailors were seriously injured. Russian naval units assisted in evacuating the crew, including 13 Turkish citizens. The captain alleged that Ukraine carried out the attack using six or seven drones, but that accusation has not been independently verified, and neither Kyiv nor Moscow immediately accepted responsibility. Ankara says another Turkish-owned ship was also attacked after leaving Novorossiysk and warns that the expanding maritime conflict now threatens civilian navigation, commercial trade and global food supplies.
