In October 1944, German officers were being hunted in the frozen Carpathian Mountains. Soviet snipers controlled the roads, hidden artillery was hammering German positions, and commanders needed someone who could disappear behind enemy lines. That man was Matthäus Hetzenauer, a twenty-year-old Austrian sniper assigned to the 3rd Gebirgsjäger Division. Armed with a scoped Kar 98k, Hetzenauer entered Soviet-held territory with one spotter and began a brutal twelve-day hunt through snow, forests, artillery fire, and enemy patrols. By the end of World War II, Hetzenauer had 345 confirmed kills, making him the highest-scoring confirmed sniper in German military history. But the mission that defined him began with one dangerous assignment in the mountains of Eastern Europe. Written and hosted by Colin D. Heaton. Forgotten History is a 10th Legion Pictures Production.
