We have officially entered the era of Netflix originals and classic remakes. As major production companies produces television and film for us to watch, it is time we contend with the pervasive "Single Story" of Africa, and moreso, how it is so singluar. Comfort Markwei is a senior at Duke University double double-majoring in History and International Comparative Studies. She was raised in Nashville, Tennessee, by two Ghanaian immigrants along with her two younger siblings. Her professional interests are in law, intellectual property, and cultural production. She asks how film and television specifically act as spaces for cultural production, and how heritage and representation are protected in an industry that commodifies stories. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
