In summary, Mistfall Hunter is a solid showing overall. It recognises that extraction games don’t have to be relentlessly punishing by ensuring every expedition feels worthwhile, whether you escape with a bountiful amount of loot or die trying. Combat is thumping, and class experimentation truly feels limitless. Yet, as the hours pass, a growing web of currencies and increasingly group-focused objectives undermine the elegance of its ideas. And that’s the frustrating thing: developer Bellring Games proves that the experience can work as a solo player, with combat, classes, and buildcrafting compelling enough to sustain attention away from its myriad addicting systems. Mistfall Hunter is good, but by overly softening extraction’s tension it feels an update or two away from being truly remarkable.
