Broadcaster and political commentator Sean Walsh joins Mark Dolan to discuss questions surrounding Cambridge professor Jason Arday’s credentials and several reported claims about his past. Sean argues that the controversy raises wider concerns about academic scrutiny, peer review and whether identity politics discouraged institutions from asking difficult questions. He describes Arday as an “accidental whistleblower” who has exposed what Walsh sees as serious weaknesses within sociology and the social sciences. The pair also discuss Prime Minister Andy Burnham’s pledge to end rough sleeping. Drawing on his own experience of homelessness, Walsh welcomes the attention but warns that rough sleeping is a complex problem without a single solution. Have you got a story?
