Reform UK councillor Colin Towell joins Kevin O’Sullivan to discuss plans to expand the Haslar Immigration Removal Centre in Gosport from approximately 160 places to as many as 600. Colin says residents are alarmed by the proposed scale of the facility, the pressure it could place on local roads and infrastructure, and what he describes as a lack of meaningful consultation and transparency. He claims parts of a report provided to the council were redacted and says some residents fear becoming “prisoners in their own homes”. The Home Office says the expansion is critical to increasing detention capacity and enabling more forced returns, including those of foreign-national offenders and people with no lawful right to remain. Colin argues that the Government is accommodating the migration crisis rather than solving it. Have you got a story?
