Former Education Secretary Gillian Keegan and economist Faiza Shaheen react to the government’s early prisoner release scheme, as PC Andrew Harper’s killers remain eligible for early release under new government exemptions. Ms Keegan says there “no way” the government “will get away with this”, while Ms Shaheen says “it’s a political storm” and that their early release would be a “mark against” Prime Minister Andy Burnham. Both believe the prime minister will U-turn on the policy, after the Police Federation threatened legal action against the government in a bit to prevent them being released early.
