Public First research director Ed Shackle has warned that politicians must not underestimate growing public anger over immigration. Speaking to Mark Dolan, Ed said the cost of living remains Britain’s leading concern, but immigration is the issue provoking the strongest emotional response among voters. He argued that images of small-boat crossings have intensified concerns about fairness, control and national identity, saying: “Immigration is the issue that gets the public most riled, and they are most frustrated about.” However, Ed warned that Reform UK must develop credible policies beyond immigration if it is serious about winning a general election.
