Bronislav Kaminski led one of the largest collaborationist formations created in the occupied Soviet Union during the Second World War. Operating under German protection, his Russian People's Liberation Army (RONA) became an important auxiliary force in anti-partisan operations before later serving alongside the Waffen-SS. The unit gained a reputation for reprisals against civilians, the destruction of villages, and widespread abuses in occupied Soviet territory and during the Warsaw Uprising of 1944. This documentary follows Kaminski's rise from a chemical engineer living in exile near Bryansk to the leader of the Lokot Autonomy, a collaborationist administration established under German occupation. It examines how the collapse of Soviet authority during Operation Barbarossa created conditions in which local collaborators assumed military and administrative power while working closely with Nazi Germany.
