North Sydney Olympic Pool has reopened after a five-year redevelopment that cost $122 million, more than double the original $58 million budget. The historic harbourside facility at the foot of the Harbour Bridge now features heated pools, a sundeck, gym, sauna and gelato stand, with local residents facing a 53% rate rise to cover the cost blowouts. Olympic legend Shane Gould returned to the pool where she broke the 100-metre freestyle world record as a 15-year-old.
