Australia bans pharmaceutical companies from advertising prescription-only medicines directly to the public, unlike the United States, where weight loss drug ads are everywhere. But health experts say pharmaceutical companies are finding ways around those restrictions through “disease awareness” campaigns. Professor Barbara Mintzes from the University of Sydney argues the campaigns are designed to increase sales.
