December 1944, deep in the Ardennes Forest. Captain John Castle is ordered to block a road and stall the 1st SS Panzer Division long enough for his battalion to pull back. The roadblock holds. His men don't. Wounded in the leg and 27 miles from the rally point, Castle begins walking through territory crawling with SS soldiers who take no prisoners. He plays dead among corpses, kills to keep moving, and carries a single field radio that becomes the only thing tying him to the world he's trying to get back to.
