We're physically present but mentally absent more often than we realize, running on autopilot in the moments that matter most. Kris Evans, a Stanford researcher, mindset scientist, and yoga teacher, calls this missing skill "meta-awareness," the ability to notice your own mind in motion. He shows us how it matters more than having a better mindset in the first place and shares a simple framework that helps pay attention to attention. Kris Evans is a PhD candidate in social psychology at Stanford University, where his research focuses on how mindsets, awareness, and holistic mind–body practices shape health, well-being, and performance. His work bridges psychology, education, and applied interventions, integrating rigorous research with real-world impact across academic, athletic, and professional settings. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
