Robin explores how a handful of tiny symbols grew into a language of their own. Hi, I’m Robin Wang. I was born in Beijing, China in 2012. I enjoy history, linguistics, chess, boxing, and playing video games. My family moved to Shenzhen in 2020 and enrolled at BBSZ (Basis Bilingual School Shenzhen). Four years later, my family moved again, to Huizhou, and I started academic life in BIPH (Basis International School Park Lane Harbor). In my spare time, I like to watch documentaries and read books to unwind. Through hard work, I was also able to maintain a constant presence in the Distinguished Honor Roll in my school. This was my first time giving a Ted Talk, and I was nervous. Fortunately, my performance exceeded my expectations, and I’m grateful for it. I chose language learning as the topic for my Talk because of my profound interest in them and my recent participation in an Olympiad for Linguistics.
