Sen. Blumenthal (D-CT) holds a news conference following the vote on the Russian sanctions bill initiated by the late Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC). The bill, which authorizes tariffs on countries that buy Russian oil and gas, now heads to the House. The Senate overwhelmingly approved a bill to intensify sanctions on Russia’s wartime economy, in a long-awaited victory for congressional supporters of Ukraine. The 86-to-11 vote capped more than a year and a half of negotiations around the legislation, during which even some supportive lawmakers doubted its prospects.
