The Trump administration is launching a major new education investment in mining and workforce development to expand domestic production of critical minerals. At a roundtable at the US State Department, President Trump announced $100 million in education grants for universities, community colleges and trade schools to train the next generation of American miners. Officials say the goal is to prepare the workforce needed to mine, process, refine and manufacture critical minerals like lithium, graphite and rare earth elements domestically, reducing US dependence on overseas supply chains, particularly those linked to China. The announcement builds on the administration's creation of a US Strategic Critical Minerals Reserve earlier this year. Al Jazeera's Manuel Rapalo reports from Washington.
