Former Metropolitan Police detective chief inspector Chris Phillips has warned that unrest over asylum accommodation could spread as communities become increasingly frustrated with politicians. Protests in Thetford, Norfolk, reportedly escalated into disorder over three consecutive nights, with several arrests made and a police officer allegedly bitten. The unrest centred on homes believed to be housing asylum seekers. Speaking to Kevin O’Sullivan, Chris condemned rioting and expressed sympathy for officers caught between protesters and residents. However, he argued that communities feel ignored when asylum accommodation is introduced without adequate consultation. Chris said: “Politicians just haven’t listened to what they’re saying. People aren’t stupid, and they want their politicians to do something.” Have you got a story?
