In July, Trinidad and Tobago signed memorandums of understanding with two American companies to build large AI data centres, the first deals of their kind in the Caribbean. The government says the projects could bring more than US$5 billion in investment and over 5,000 jobs. Then more than 23,000 people signed a petition asking the government to stop.
