Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky visited Belgrade on Saturday for talks with Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, during which Zelensky called for billions more in European funding for Ukraine's domestic defence industry and acknowledged that 21 rounds of EU sanctions against Russia had failed to stop the flow of ballistic weapons components reaching Moscow from countries across almost all continents, including close partners. Vucic told Zelensky that he did not see a realistic prospect of Serbia or Ukraine joining the European Union in the near term, citing political obstacles within the bloc, and said he believed EU members would find reasons to delay Ukrainian accession as they had with Serbia's candidacy. The Serbian president said Belgrade would not seek to block Ukraine's EU membership bid or demand it be admitted first, but cast doubt on the feasibility of early accession for either country.
