The war on Iran is accelerating changes at the Pentagon, as US defence officials seek faster and cheaper military technologies. Jarred Conley of the Pentagon’s Defense Innovation Unit told Al Jazeera that autonomous warfare could supplement US capabilities while cutting the cost of countering threats such as drones. The conflict has also raised questions about US stocks of Patriot and THAAD interceptors, though the Pentagon and President Donald Trump deny ammunition supplies are running low. The Defense Innovation Unit is working with commercial technology companies to fast-track autonomous systems into production.
