Anti-immigration protesters rallied outside a House of Multiple Occupation in Broadstairs, Kent, on Saturday over claims that the 68-bedroom property could be used to accommodate asylum seekers or other migrants. The protesters, organised by the Thanet Patriots group, carried British and English flags and placards including "Don't unpack, you're going back" and "Stop the benefits, stop the boats", while chanting "Save our kids". Group members said they were concerned about the property's proximity to schools and called for it to instead be used to accommodate local homeless people. Local residents had previously raised objections to a planning application to convert the former student accommodation block into an HMO amid reports it could house asylum seekers or released prisoners under a Home Office arrangement.
