Ukraine is set to receive a major package of U.S.-made military equipment through Turkey, including 70 M39 ATACMS ballistic missiles, according to U.S. congressional records. The transfer, expected to begin in late August, also includes 12 M270 multiple-launch rocket systems, more than 2,000 cluster munitions and 47,000 howitzer rounds, with an original acquisition value of around $280 million. The U.S. State Department said Turkey is seeking to reduce older defence stocks and redirect resources toward modernization, while Ukraine aims to strengthen its offensive and defensive fire-support capabilities. The transfer will involve Turkish companies MKE, ASFAT and ARCA Savunma, Bulgaria’s VTIC International and U.S. firms Pansophico and Patriot Defense Group. Turkey, a NATO member that has maintained close economic and political ties with Moscow while acting as a mediator in the Russia-Ukraine war, is facilitating the re-export.
