Kirinyaga county is reporting a significant drop in newborn deaths, which health officials attribute in part to the implementation of baby-friendly hospital initiative practices in its health facilities across the county. county officials say neonatal mortality has fallen from 26 to 10 deaths per 1,000 live births, with health workers saying interventions such as exclusive breastfeeding, skin-to-skin contact and kangaroo mother care are helping give premature and low-birth-weight babies a better chance of survival.
