Sydney Airport experienced two near-collision incidents within a fortnight, including a Jetstar crew member suffering a broken wrist when an Airbus hit emergency brakes to avoid a Qatar plane, and a Qantas jet nearly colliding with another aircraft on the runway on 27 July. Airservices Australia CEO Rob Sharp was summoned to Canberra by the Federal Transport Minister, where he apologised for the delays and admitted air traffic control staffing issues won't be resolved until next year. The Australian aviation industry has identified air traffic control as the biggest bottleneck in the sector's post-COVID recovery.
