Bulgarian President Iliana Iotova admitted the country has "significant gaps" in counter-drone defences after an unmanned aerial vehicle crossed from Romania and exploded approximately 100 metres inside Bulgarian territory near the border village of Kardam on Saturday, with authorities continuing to investigate a wreckage identified by Bulgaria's Defence Ministry as most likely a Maya decoy drone widely used by Ukrainian forces. Iotova called for a meeting of Black Sea nations "excluding Russia" to guarantee regional security and halt escalation, while Bulgarian Chief of Defence Admiral Emil Eftimov ruled out deliberate action, saying the incident was a "consequence of the war's proximity to our territories" and that there was "no direct threat to Bulgaria."
