The town of Katherine experienced eight hours of terror yesterday as an allegedly stolen car was driven around the Top End town -- with one young mother saying she and her two-year-old were almost killed in a narrowly-avoided head-on collision. Police are today defending their decision not to pursue the car, citing community safety as a group of around 50 residents took to the streets this morning to voice their anger and fear.
