Former Myanmar democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi has not been seen in public since 2021, when her government was overthrown by a military coup. She has been detained ever since, with knowledge of her health and whereabouts a mystery. Recent photos provide a very rare glimpse into her life. They show the 81-year-old meeting the International Red Cross, and, in another shot, cutting a slice of a birthday cake. Her family remains gravely concerned and are fighting for her release, as her son Kim Aris tells DW. #dwcurrentaffairs #myanmar #aungsansuukyi 00:00 Who is Aung San Suu Kyi? 00:32 Rare photos emerge after years of silence 00:59 Coup leader welcomed in Thailand 02:22 Interview with Aung San Suu Kyi's son Kim Aris 02:38 "I wasn't sure the photos were real" 03:11 What do we know about her health? 05:49 The Rohingya controversy explained 07:07 Reaction to coup leader's Thailand visit 09:07 She's 81 - how urgent is this now? 09:47 Kim Aris' message to his mother For more news go t
